Users of the Observatoire de la Capitale website can now get an eyeful observing Champlain’s city from every angle, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week—something that would make strip clubs green with envy!
This activity, perfectly legal for minors and adults alike, has been made possible through the installation of a web camera on each side of the Observatory. Located on the 31st floor inside the Marie-Guyart Building, the four web cameras offer color images that are refreshed every 45 minutes.
Under “Virtual Tour/Webcams”, visitors can admire spectacular views of Québec City that change with the seasons, providing a virtual complement to a tour of Québec City’s highest point, at 221 metres in altitude. At this height, both virtual and physical tours of the capital are quite unique.
Not only can visitors zoom in on whatever strikes their fancy, they can also click on specific points of interest like the Price Building, Parc de la Francophonie, Promenade Samuel-De Champlain, and the St. Charles River for a short informative summary about them.
The installation of web cameras was piloted by Commission de la capitale nationale du Québec, owner of Observatoire de la Capitale since 1998 and manager of the site since 2008. The addition of web cameras is the second phase of a total makeover of the Observatory’s website, which was undertaken in 2008.
Decked out in style for the holiday season, Observatoire de la Capitale offers a magical panorama of Québec City, amazing exhibitions, and fabulous gift ideas from Tuesday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. With over 800,000 visitors to its credit since its inception, the Observatory is a unique location to present public and corporate activities.
